Education Alliance at Brown University. Director, Field Services. (1998-2000)

Recruited to establish and direct a new office within the Education Alliance, a department of Brown University committed to promoting equity and excellence in education. New Office was responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating school improvement projects in New England region that applied the results of education research conducted by the Education Alliance.

Cambridge Public Schools. Director, Program Development & Assessment. (1990-95)

Coordinated and participated in the development and evaluation of local innovative education projects related to bilingual education, dropout prevention, after-school programs, comprehensive health education, school-to-work, science education, technology in schools, community service learning, and school-based governance.

Children’s Defense Fund. Director, Education Division. (1984-86)

Directed division focusing on national elementary and secondary education policy issues affecting at-risk children, including Title I, bilingual education, vocational education, race and gender equity, and dropout prevention.

Senate Committee on Labor & Human Resources. Legislative Aide. (1981-84)

Served on the Committee staff of Sen. Edward Kennedy (ranking Democratic member) focusing on a range of issues including elementary & secondary education, legal services, community services, and volunteer programs.

Education

Harvard Law School. Attended from 1977 to 1980. Awarded Juris Doctor in 1980. Focus of studies on education law and administrative law.

Texas A & M University. Attended from 1973 to 1977. Awarded Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & Anthropology in 1977. Completed graduate level courses on social science research methodology. Prepared policy research papers on education and Hispanic social issues. Participated in anthropology field research.
