Meriden (CT) Portrait of a Graduate Project (for COSEBOC)
Work and career for today’s graduates will be very different from those who graduated generations before. How can we ensure that all students will graduate ready to succeed in a complex and changing world? The Meriden (CT) School District received funding from the Barr Foundation to build from recent initiatives by creating a “Community-Driven Portrait of a Meriden Graduate” which describes what a graduate needs to know and be able to do to be successful. The Portrait is being developed through a process that prioritizes collaboration between Meriden Public Schools and community members across the city to ensure that it reflects a range of perspectives and voices. The Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSEBOC) and Education Development Center (EDC) are serving as facilitators of this process along with the Meriden School District. The attributes in the Portrait will guide the learning experiences and supports that need to be accessible to all students to ensure that they are ready for life after graduation.
